I feel I was targetted unfairly here by management for this kind of abuse. When I first took residence at the Oaks , there was no housing subsidies...just straight rent, which back then in 1998 was 312.00 a month with community bathrooms and kitchens. A great deal if you ask me. Plus the rooms and placement of the Oaks Hotel is very nice in scenic downtown Oakland ,California.
The first property manager here was a very nice ,La Kiesha Bell, pretty foxy too.. I enjoyed one and a half year at the Oaks., while she was here, however things changed for the worst, when it was announced that the Oaks was ungoing renovations. The renovations were part of a new program that the "Oakland Community Housing Management" was trying out under the auspices of the Oakland Housing Authority. The renovations would include new carpetting throughout the hotel, painting new equipment for the kitchens, and other stuff. But tenants would have to relocate while there rooms were being renovated. In my case I had to move to another room permanently. My Old room was #312 but I was told that was going to be a handicapped room, so I couldn't go back to that room. The Oaks was going to get a government subsidy to house people. The tenants would only have to 30% of there income, which was great for me cause I wasn't making much..though I was one of the only gainfully employed tenants in the building. Little did I know about the changes I would be going through under the auspices of the Oakland Housing Authority and the Oaks Hotel. Things began to take a turn for the worse under the new property manager ,Ray Butcher and the friendly Oakland Housing authority case worker back then ...Rickey Pierre.
