A big computer crash brought my system down a couple of days ago. I just brought this new(old) PC game "Knights of the old Republic: The Sith lords", and just had nothing but problems playing with it. Then one day after defragmenting my drive and installing a new video driver ..its just crashed right while I was playing the game offline. The computer just kept rebooting....then seemed stable for a while then it died, so where it wouldn't boot up at all and the puter would say. "Cannot boot up due due to a missing or corrupted file /System32/config.
I ended up re-formating the drive losing some goodies and game info (kotor2). This problem continues to occur, I don't know if my CPU is bad , or if it truly is a software problem. I physically checked my CPU-setup there was a patina of dust around the fan . I cleaned it, but I think more that its some kind of software problem . I noticed downloading a update from my old 2002 Norton utilities caused my computer to crash again...with the same error message. This has occurred three times already.
luckily I found a cheap fix fot the missing or corrupted file, but when I use this fix, I end up having to re-install some missing device drivers which was tricky to do.
Now I am able to get online and I have limited use of my computer, but I cannot upgrade my versions of windows, cause its a bootleg ..... when I brought Windows XP professional version, it looked like a real distribution of windows..a friggin bargain at $20.00. I guess I deserve all this. Then there Norton Utilities version 2002, which I haven't upgraded. I like the Virus detection capabilities of the Norton. Everytime I end up having to re-install Norton it resets the date of all the upgrades I can get on it, that's why I've had it since 2002/3.......free upgrades. What I don't like about norton utilities is that its a very invasive program. Near the end I couldn't disable the program, every time I would try to disable that program i'd get these very annoying pop-ups that I couldn't disable.
I discover that i've been living a blessed life in a way. I think Microsoft is right with there new policies regarding there merchandise, not allowing upgrades unless you have a genuine product. Unfortunately there are ways to get copies to get bootleg copies of there merchandise, as the other day a guy was selling rank copies of Windows XP SP.2 , in Espanol even. But if its not a genuine product maybe its not worth buying.
Windows tends to be expensive, average users having to part with $100.00 to buy a Home XP version.
Aww hell, I hate being a dead beat, but I hate having my computer crash on me like this and becoming so unreliable.
The times are catching up with me..And I've considered that I use my computer too much and don't spend much time doing things non-computer related, like reading a book, or playing/learning to play guitar. So maybe I should get used to NOT having a computer , plus With my reccurt job problems, I might not be able to stay employed with the company to be able to afford to stay online, but it looks like I am reaching The End. If a miracle happens and I can stay online I guess for a year Maybe I'll consider using a Linux system...
