Adventures in Employment

I think one of the worse job experiences I had happened in the late eighties when I moved back into the Bay Area. I had came back from the California Conservation Corps, after only 11 months , but that was a hell of an experience, I even went to Africa from there. In Hindsight I probably shouldn't have left the Corps, but I was sure more "Hard work ,Low pay, and Miserable conditions" awaited me filling sandbags working on the Stockton Delta...I choose to leave.

Had many days like this in the C.C.C

Plus I had a crush on our supervisor Virginia Clarke ( forest Queen) , an very Irish Woman, very charming, who knew how to treat us. One of the most pleasant thing about working at Siskiyou Center, at the C.C.C ( session 57), was the great scenery. About an hour a day took up most of the time traveling to and from work sites. Mt Shasta wasn't that far away, and our journeys often took us pretty near it at times. Often you could see precipitation falling on areas of the Mountain.

A nice southern? exposure of Mt. Shasta as we would have seen it back then..a little close though.

The nearest city from where We were located at in the C.C.C, was a Small city called "Yreka". It was a couple of miles from the center so on off times I would travel to Yreka on my Bicycle to buy stuff. That was back in 1982, I still ride a bicycle to get around where I'm going in the Bay Area, as if I was still in Siskiyou County in 2007. I a mostly enjoyed the trips but having a car might have been better.
