AZT RISING, More on Duesbergs Natal Chart,Con't

"People with Algol influence: Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Van Gogh, Albert Einstein, Karl Abraham (psychoanalyst), Carl Jung, Ramakrishna (Indian saint), Muktananda (Indian mystic), Werner Erhard (guru "est"), Marshall Applewhite and Luc Jouret (cult leaders, led to mass suicides), Al Gore (the name is close), Billy Joel, Glen Campbell, Liberace, Princess Diana, Prince William, Princess Caroline of Monaco, Anita Bryant (against gays), Zola Budd (runner), Manly Palmer Hall (philosophical research), Aleister Crowley (Satanist, occultist), Erica Jong (author), Mary Jo Kopechne (drowned companion of Ted Kennedy), John Lennon, Ringo Starr, Dean Martin, Ryan O'Neil, Josef Stalin, Pat Schroeder, Carl Sagan, Cecil B. De Mille (film producer), Isadora Duncan, Mata Hari (Spy), George Bernard Shaw, Oscar Wilde, Michael Caine, Henry Fonda, Ruhollah Khomeini (Iranian leader), Stephen King (horror novels)."

All these people had "Algol" strong in there charts but probably not many have Algol connected to their Rising sign.

"Influence of the constellation: It gives an intelligent, strong, bold and adventurous nature, but a tendency to lying. By the Kabalists it is associated with the Hebrew letter Lamed and the 12th Tarot Trump, The Hanged Man. (Robson).

The constellation is indicative of events effecting large numbers of people, especially those events caused by major meteorological phenomena. When prominent in a natal chart it is said to denote adventurous individuals, but also those who are less than honest in their dealings with others. (Noonan).

General influence of the star: It causes misfortune, violence, decapitation, hanging, electrocution and mob violence, and gives a dogged and violent nature that causes death to the native or others. It is the most evil star in the heavens. (Robson).

Poor teeth. Brutality and violence. Arabic commanders in chief, in times of conquest, made it a point that no important battles were begun when the light of Algol was weak (Algol is an eclipsing binary - every 68 hours and 49 minutes the demon ‘blinks’ for roughly 8 hours as the dimmer star of the pair passes between the brighter and the earth). (Ebertin). "

Well "Algol" has a bad reputation, but as you learn in Astrology, sometimes "Good things"can turn out to be a curse ( has in a grand trine), and sometimes a "curse" we are born (Algol/Ascendant) with can be a blessing. There are other mitigating circumstances in Duesberg's birth chart, for example; the "Venus conjunct Jupiter" in his chart generally make for a nice, well liked person. That conjunction is tied up (superficially though) with another tremendous fixed star , "Sirius"... I think it Add to the natives popularity. "Conjunct" means the planets are separated by 0-10 degrees.

History of the star: Sirius is the largest and most brilliant star in the heavens, a binary star, brilliant white and yellow, situated in the mouth of the greater dog Canis Major.

Its popular Graeco-Egyptian name was "the Brightly Radiating One".

In mythology, Sirius played an important role. The dog symbolism of Canis Major and its Lucida, Sirius, goes back to at least the 3rd millennium BC.

In early astrology and poetry there is no end to the evil influences that were attributed to Sirius;

"The brightest be, but sign to mortal man Of evil augury"...

"Terrific glory! for his burning breath taints the red air with fevers, plagues and death" ...

"The rampant Lyon hunts he fast with dogge of noisome breath. Whose baleful barking brings in bast pyne, plagues and dreerye death"...

"The dogstar, that burning constellation, when be brings drought and diseases on sickly mortals, rises and saddens the sky with inauspicious light"...

"Swift Sirius, scorching thirsty Ind, Was hot in heaven"...

"Restless, Impetuous, Blazing"...

But these expressions as to the hateful character of the Dog Star may have been induced in part from the evil reputation of the dog in the East, where dogs are rabid scavengers and do not have the exalted position in the home that is given to them nowadays in the West.

In astrology wealth and renown were the happy lot of all born under this and its companion Dog Procyon (alpha Canis Minor).

Sirius was believed by the ancients to be the central Sun of the Milky Way; and the poet Manilius said that it was "a distant Sun to illuminate remote bodies".

"Because the star Sirius, is the center of gravity of our local stellar cluster, our immediate neighborhood, translates in the interpretation of the chart as >the largest one around<>the most<>

Sirus is another study, For another time. There some modern interpretations for Algol tied up with the Ascendant (The Ascendant is the another name "Rising sign")
You could say like in the Isaac Hayes song ,"Shaft", "This Cats a Baddd MotherF%$ker!" but how do you "Bad"? "Bad" like in "evil" or "Bad" like in "not to be messed with"? Probably some of both.

Then consider that Duesberg's Asc/Algol/Moon is trine to Neptune which is trine to his Midheaven (M.C), which makes up a Grand trine,(the blue triangle in the center of his chart). Trines indicate the the "planets" are separated by 120 degrees. The grand trine suggest that Duesberg is good in his chosen career. Fortunately for him perhaps he found a lucrative and acceptable way of translating his drive and darker/higher ambitions.. as a Molecular and Cell biologist. What would Duesberg be doing if he wasn't into academics or this chosen field?

Later in his career Duesberg was shunned, and black balled (Algol/Ascendant) because of his Stance concerning H.I.V/A.I.D.S, as a prominent retrovirologist. He was shunned by profession and some of his peers.. as if he was the Medusa, maybe an astrological effect of having Algol near your ascendant in the natal chart?

We grow up and outgrow our natal tendencies. Duesberg's Asc isn't conjunct Algol at present time, but I guess because Duesberg was "being himself"... harkened back his natal tendencies....he petrified many Scientist in the field, who couldn't agree with his theories.

There is an odd twist of fate or Destiny maybe acting in Mr. Duesberg's life. Call him whatever, Algol on the Asc, Bad Mutherfucker, Hero, or Monster. The Central Greek myth behind "Algol" had to do with the hero "Perseus" slaying "the Medusa" ( Algol) . The Medusa was a monster so hideous it would turn men to stone to gaze upon her.

The myth of Medusa the Gorgon: Medusa ("cunning one"), along with her sisters, Stheno ("strong"), and Euryale ("wide roaming") were the daughters of the sea Titans Porcys and Ceto. Medusa (Algol), whose head Perseus is carrying under his left arm, was the youngest and most beautiful and she was also the only mortal one of the three. Once said to have been extremely wise; they all served as priestesses to the virgin goddess of wisdom, Athena. However, the Seagod Poseidon (Neptune) desperately desired Medusa. In a moment of raw passion he raped Medusa inside of Athena's temple of worship. Perhaps in anger, the three sisters became petty and vindictive toward men. Athena transformed Medusa and her sisters into hideous beasts with scaly skin, dragon's wings and hair formed of dozens of coiling snakes. As a result, all who beheld the Gorgons were instantly turned to stone when their eyes met. Perseus; guided and gifted by the Gods; slew Medusa. He used her head to slay the Sea Monster (Cetus) after rescuing Andromeda, then gave the head to Athena who mounted it onto a breastplate (or shield) called the Aegis. From then on; all who looked into the Athena's Aegis turned to stone. The gigantic head of Gorgon, a thing of fear and horror, was the centerpiece of a series of warcraft icons; Terror, Hatred and Onslaught

I take this myth of the Medusa/Algol to mean ,shame, humiliation, tragedy things were afraid to look at directly lest it overwhelm us.

In this myth, One monster (the Medusa's head), is used to destroy another monster "Cetus" The whale" ,to save a woman "Andromeda" ( A constellation galaxy). Perhaps this is a myth that is Apropos to Mr. Duesberg life. In case of Medusa her head was being used ..by a higher power , "Perseus", to destroy another monster. Maybe there is a sense of a higher power directing Peter Duesbergs life . Or at least having to grapple and be somewhat successful about grappling with one's own demons, of which Mr Duesberg may have considerable ones. There is a hint of this in the natal chart, a Sun/Pluto conjunction.

"From Aspects in Astrology by Sue Tompkins:The challenge for those with sun-pluto contacts is to be able to integrate the light and dark sides of the self without being overwhelmed by either end of the spectrum at the expense of the others.Sun-pluto interchanges seem to be concerned with illuminating those things that are hidden, bringing what is buried out into the light of day where it can be acknowledged and valued"

The Sun ( Leo) Conjunct Pluto in Leo and with Algol on the ASC, speaks of enormous strength and courage in the face of crisis , an ability to look at and face the darker things that others cannot or will not, perhaps a strength born in tragedy in his earliest years. This could be indicated by Duesberg's natal Moon In Taurus also. The Moon sometimes represents the "Mother" in life. As the Moon transits His Ascendant, and Fixed Star "Algol" by progression...it might have been an indication that some tragedy occurred in his life in his earliest years concerning his Mother possibly.

Having a notorious star like "Algol" sitting on ones' astrological Ascendant could indicate a horrible stigma, It could be as if When one is born, one was afflicted with H.I.V.

Or "Algol' could symbolize some horrible poison Like "AZT", a substance born of Salmon sperm, you know what happens when Salmon mate? Only a contact like that on the Ascendant would personify the native. Algol could symbolize alot of negative things, things so horrible we dare not look upon it, lest we be turned to stone. But in overcoming these demons (if it is possible) maybe we can become a peculiar force for good in helping others overcome and fight their demons. I think Peter Duesberg is quite a force in this.
