Sudan 1983

Lunch in Khartoum with the group

Welcome to downtown Khartoum. Northern Sudan is a rather hot place especially since it is very near the Saharian desert. We were there around July /August, a total of 6 weeks. July and August is about winter if i'm not mistaken , but temperatures were mostly around 100 farenheit daily.

More of the lovely photogenic people in Sudan.

That looks like in Me (then, below in the maroon shirt) in another little party in Khartoum? held by a host.I should have dressed better! Gatherings like this are usually segregated in Islamic Cultures, that is the men are separated from the women. I suspect that makes a good playing ground for homosexualities, I suggested this to one of our groups member and she thought I was joking. But back then in 1983 when HIV/AIDS was making a showing in the U.S. I didn't see people dropping dead from AIDS back then in Sudan. The host was a Sudanese who also lived in the U.S. From my backyard, at U.C Berkeley; Berkeley, California.
