COINTELPRO Then And Now..

In Micheal K.Honey's book "Going Down Jericho Road- The Memphis strike, Martin Luther King's last campaign" Honey writes about the conditions of Working conditions for blacks before the Civil Rights movement for African-Americans in the 1950's and 60's.

Has blacks continued to organize in labor unions and for rights at work. Martin Luther King got into the fray, So did J.Edgar Hoover, director of the U.S Federal Bureau of Investigation ( F.B.I) Hoover did not like King, didn't like the movement he was leading in the country, and sought to destroy him, and the Civil rights movement. According to Honey's book...

"On August 25, 1967, J.Edgar Hoover issued a new COINTELPRO memo to all FBI offices titled, "COUNTERINTELLIGENCE PROGRAM,BLACK NATIONALIST-HATE GROUPS,INTERNAL SECURITY" (caps in original), defining the FBI's purpose as not just surveillance but attack:

The purpose of this new counterintelligence endeavor is to expose,disrupt,misdirect, or otherwise neutralize the activities of black nationalist, hate-type organizations and groupings, their leaders,spokesmen,membership, and supporters, and to counter their propensity for violence and civil disorder....No opportunity should be missed to exploit through counterintelligence techniques the organizational and personal conflicts of the leaderships of the groups...to insure the targeted group is disrupted,ridiculed, or discredited."

Hoover emphasized the power of the mass media to perform this function led by the FBI's information.

The FBI had no legal authority to attack individuals and groups exercising their free-speech rights under the First Amendment of the Constitution, but that did not matter to Hoover, who placed SCLC ( Southern Christian Leadership Conference)on his list of hate groups and king on his list of people to be discredited. Memphis was one of the key cities that received his August 25 memo."

Question; Present Administration as labeled 'Al Quaeda" ,as the current leader in Terrorism around the World and as the people behind the 9-11 attack on the United States, but how do we know the truth about what the government is saying about "Al Quaeda" or anything ?
