When I was demonstrating outside the Hotel, I got into a little argument with a street person over my protest sign my sign said this .
Well and one guy raised up an idea, that maybe it was for the "Common good". How about it , say you move into a Hotel or what they call an "S.R.O", and say an irate manager moves you into a room next to a sex offender, a troll, a molester. Say this guy molester starts harassing YOU. What do you do?
You rebel but then society comes up to you and say.."Its for the common good". "Its better that this Molester harasses you than , My kids, or society" . One could then argue the purpose of these Hotels , or S.R.O's is where you can keep troublesome elements of society, out of the mainstream. So then it becomes okay if that Molester harasses you in an S.R.O..the management of the S.R.O performs a public service, keeping bad guys out of circulation!
But what if your not a "bad guy", what if your some earnest ,honest Joe Smoe" off the street who needed to find a room, just working trying to carry your own weight and make it some where? Now your living next to a Molester..Unbeknownst to you? What about YOUR Rights?
Well fortunately there are laws in California regarding discrimination of this kind, whether or not these laws are going to be enforced is another thing! Given the current political climate here in America and in California, I'd say Naught!.
If the management of the S.R.O manages or owns alot of housing sites, the state makes the risk of creating homeless potentially hundreds of people because of your complaint! In my case this management company runs 29 housing sites in California. Ithink this is why I got a raw deal by the state.
Maybe there are doing a bit of a Public service, because where are you going to house these people, the indigent, the ex-cons, the sex offenders etc. I guess thats an argument for places like this, and reason why I shouldn't be in it. The other choice I have is to is to rent a room in a non-SRO hotel for 150.00 or more a week, that doesn't even have amendities like community kitchen .
I guess the SRO goes overboard and breaks the law, when they, or they allow others to bully or harass its tenants, breaking local, state and federal laws, for its..... "Common Good".
